Sun. morning, May 23, 2010

Hi, Everyone,
Thank for stopping by and visiting my website.
I just renewed my website with Go Daddy for another five years. I can honestly say, it has been a blessing to me. Not only from the feedback I get at times, but a wonderful way to spread the word about domestic violence and abuse. I know there are those who read the things on my website and get help from them.

My foot is getting better. At least it isn't burning so much and swelling. I go this Tuesday to the Orthopedic doctor to see if the cast remains on or if I get another type of apparatus to deal with. It would be nice to get it off and then I can plan on visiting my sister and family in Tenn. Her son is at her place. He lives and works in China and is back for about a 3 month visit. I am driving down there the week of June 8, if the cast comes off by then!

Hubby got the flu on Friday. He has been sick all weekend and with a fever. I think he is better today. We were supposed to have his dad and dad's girlfriend come today, but I called and cancelled the visit for both of them. His Dad's girlfriend has really been through a lot of testing of late and neither one of them needs the flu, nor do I!

The weather has just been crazy these past two weeks. I would like to put away my winter coat but it seems it isn't going to happen yet. Just last week it was almost 80 degrees one day and then the bottom dropped out and it was very cold (40 degrees), windy and raining. We even had some frost. Hubby had to replant his first corn as it rained so much and was so cold it more than likely couldn't germinate.

I had some critter or a crow nip off some of the pepper plants. So I bought more and planted them the other day. Can't really go into the garden and do much as it is so muddy. If I'm out in the wet yard, I put a trash bag over my foot/cast with rubber bands so it doesn't get wet. I also do this when I mow as I sure don't want grass, etc. getting down in my cast!

While I was sitting on the porch one evening, when it was a little warmer, the sun felt so good and the birds were a singing chorus! So many cheerful voices all at once. What a sound! Even every morning about 5:15 a.m. the birds start singing. Even right now as I am here on my computer, I can hear the gleeful twitting sounds of many songbirds. I just love to hear them.

There is one bird that sits in the Poplar tree each evening at the end of the house, and his/her voice is so musical with many high and low notes, but I can't identify it as of yet. I keep looking in my bird book but haven't come up with an identification of it. Hmmm.

This week will be busy preparing for the rummage sale for the CCAPL this weekend. It will be a lot of work but hopefully it will generate some funding for us towards possibly the driveway entrance we are trying to put in soon. The engineer is working on the plan packets to be submitted to contractors.

Well, I've got laundry to do and some cleaning after my devotional readings. I think I'll make spaghetti salad for us too.

Take care, and be safe. Enjoy the sunshine if you have it in your area!
Best to you,
Becky :)

Sun. morning, May 19, 2010

Hi, Everyone,
Thanks for stopping by. Sure hope you can get some valuable information from my website to help you or others dealing with domestic violence and abuse and more.

Well, the foot is getting better, at least in the mornings it is pretty good. Although in the afternoon it starts to swell and burn. So, I get it up on a pillow as I sit in the chair in the family room. I have so much to do and get done, but it will just have to wait.

Hubby did help me get my tomatoes, green peppers, and green beans in the garden. He planted three rows of potatoes. I'm not doing the sweet potatoes this year as they just didn't grow very well before. I did plant two rows of sunflowers for the birds and put in 9 little trees to start them. I'll transplant them eventually out at the CCAPL land.

The weather has been so crazy lately. The wind has been terrific and the temperature just doesn't want to stay up in the 70's or higher. Been really cool at night too so can't have the windows open. Don't want the kitty cats to get sick. The other morning it was 28 degrees and frosty. Brrr. I'm sure it will get warm one of these days but it sure seems a long time in coming.

I spoke to two schools this week. Wednesday was 510 Minerva Middle School students, and Friday was 217 Dellroy Elementary School students. Another member, Ray, brought his dog, Buster (A beautiful Golden Retriever), and they also did a presentation on obedience and Ray talked to the children about different things regarding responsibility of owning a dog and not to feed them chocolate!

Ray and I will be going to the Carrollton Middle School on June 1st. It is the students last day too so they will be wired.

I'm possibly going down to Tenn. to visit my sister, niece, and nephew. My nephew is returning from China (where he works and lives), and it will be great to see every one. I'm hoping the Ortho. surgeon tells me on May 25th, I can have this cast removed or at least give me something else with more flexibility. I'm supposed to go down the week of June the 8th, but we'll see what the Doctor says. I really don't want to drive down there with a cast on my foot!

Take care, stay safe, and until next time, enjoy the warmer weather!
Becky :)

Tuesday morning, May 4th, 2010

Hi, Everyone,
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Last Saturday's craft show was great! I talked with so many people and handed out sheets of literature on Domestic Violence and abuse. Many people were interested and seemed genuinely concerned and wanting to learn about it. This is a good thing.

Joyce's husband came along and I met him for the first time. He is such a sweet fellow and a gentleman.

Sunday morning early, 7 a.m., I was leaving to go into town to Tractor Supply for cat food and then Thorne's Grocery to exchange an item I purchased for the right thing. As I was walking (it was raining) with my hands full, the umbrella, and my purse on my arm, I stepped on a cement patio block by the garage and caught the edge of it. Next thing I knew I was on the ground and my ankle/foot was in severe pain. I finally made it upright, went into town, and then while at Thorne's the kind lady at the counter called Mercy Stat Care. They didn't open until 9 a.m. so I called hubby and told him what happened. He said to come home and he would take me into Stat Care. So I did.
Well, yes, my foot is broken in two places on the 5Th. metatarsal bone on the left of my foot by the ankle bone. Dr. Randall said at Stat Care, it is called a "ballerina fracture" (very common with them and dancers) because when ballerinas or dancers land on it, the ankle can rotate, cause the tendon to pull the bone and fracture it. So, the Dr. put a temporary cast on it and I was back on crutches. Been a while, but just like riding a bicycle, you don't forget how to use them. My foot was really hurting and was thumping quite a bit. So hubby and father-in-law waited on me all day Sunday. Hubby even made supper...his wonderful spaghetti!

So, needless to say I had to call first thing Monday morning at 7 a.m. to the Orthopedic Dr.'s office to get an appointment for a regular cast and to find out if I had to have surgery for a pin (common also with this type of fracture), and was certainly not looking forward to hearing that! My appointment was for 1:30 p.m.

I went into work before 8 a.m. and another courthouse employee carried my briefcase and purse to the office. Boy, my armpits were screaming by this time.

So, I finished with my W.I.S.H. group at noon and drove up to the Dr's. office. They put me in a wheelchair and that was fine with me!

Well, when Dr. L. came into the casting room, he was grinning. I told him it was good to see him, and that I had him on speed-dial! This was the fifth time I had seen him in about five years as he set my fractured arm, little finger, sprained ankle, and did two knee surgeries for me.

The first thing he said was, "No surgery"- yeah! and that I could have a walking cast- double yeah!, and it would be about 4 weeks, recheck and then possibly a walking boot. I was so relieved! At least now I can get some things done without being confined to crutches! Althought the cast weighes about three pounds and a little difficult to walk with, I will do fine.

So, I'll be busy with getting things together today for the CCAPL meeting tonight, and helping my father-in-law (hearing impaired), straighten out a mess with AT&T and his phone and T.V. service. Then get ready for the big fund-raiser this Sat.

So all is good again-praise God!

Stay safe, learn all you can about domestic violence and abuse and do not become a victim!

My best to you!
Becky :)
